Clients/Confidentiality/Sessions

Clients

I work with Adults (18 and older) from varied backgrounds. I place a high value on your needs and wishes for the life you envision and meet you where you are at--always. This service was designed with YOU in mind. I work one-to-one with you-- there are no distractions. Together we will work through your challenges, harness your strengths, gain perspective; and move toward that state of balance we all seek. After all this is YOUR journey!

Confidentiality

As a Registered Social Worker, I uphold the high ethical standards set out for professionals in the CASW Code of Ethics (2008) and will not disclose any client information without the client's expressed, written consent. While your confidentiality remains a high ethical obligation, there are limits to confidentiality (i.e., when there is a safety risk) and these limits are always discussed before the start of therapy with every new client.

Sessions, Appointment Cancellation & Insurance

I provide individual therapy to adults. Sessions are 50 minutes long and is standard in psychotherapy settings. Occasionally you may require more time if you anticipate you will have more to say or the situation is complex and needs greater attention. In such cases, you can also book 75-minute sessions as well. Depending on the time slot this might not always be possible so check with the therapist.

Any cancellations must take place prior to 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be billed at the full rate.

Letters and forms are done on a discretionary basis and the fee charged will be in direct relation to how much time it takes to complete the task. Many insurance providers cover counselling/psychotherapy services. Check with your provider to see if you have coverage for services provided by a Social Worker. You will be provided with a receipt upon payment of the session, which you can use for reimbursement or tax purposes.

My Approach

I value the inherent worth of people and believe that we know what's best for us. Therefore, I take a strengths-based, collaborative approach to working with clients. You are the expert in your life; therapy provides you the opportunity to partner with a professional who works with you to identify the goals and changes you want to see, and to move you in that direction.

Like many therapists, I too have walked the journey of the client; worked through my own discord; and, ultimately, learned to appreciate the complexity for what it means to be human. I use this sensibility to guide my work and place a high value on the therapeutic relationship I develop with clients. I will continue to gauge and nurture this relationship, while maintaining the high professional standards and boundaries to which I am held.

My approach to therapy is integrative, blending therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Family Systems, and other models, to address your unique needs. My lens is trauma informed, strengths based and culturally sensitive. I work from a place of hope and believe everyone has the potential to improve their life regardless of the challenges they may have encountered. Should you entrust me to walk this journey with you, I will continue to maintain the high ethical standards expected of a client-centred practice.
